Sonder Tracks is a community-centered olfactory art project developed by students in the Art and Technology / Sound Practices department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, in collaboration with renowned visiting artist Emeka Ogboh. Inspired by Chicago’s ‘L’ train system, the project translates the sensory and emotional impressions of different subway lines into scent-based artworks. Each subway line is represented by a custom-made wooden box containing scented subway tokens. The graphic design uses bold colors and geometric patterns to echo the character of each scent, creating a visual system that complements the olfactory experience.
